CONCORD — Students from Concord-Carlisle High School recently partnered with Alcott Elementary School to teach children the importance of native plants and healthy ecosystems.
Members of the high school’s Green Team, a student sustainability club, led interactive spring seed sowing lessons for first- and third-grade classes on two Fridays in April.
The lessons focused on planting native species and explaining how those plants support local wildlife and environmental health.
The Green Team meets weekly to organize environmentally focused initiatives at the high school and in the community at large. During the April visits, CCHS students walked to Alcott during their Friday flex block to work directly with Alcott students in the classroom.
“This is a great opportunity for our students to take what they’ve learned about sustainability in the classroom and bring it into the community,” said Priscilla Guiney, K-12 District Sustainability Coordinator and Green Team Advisor. “This activity helped our younger students build awareness early and see how small actions can play a big role in supporting healthy ecosystems.”
