Back to School Night offers parents and guardians the chance to meet their child’s teacher, learn about the upcoming school year, hear from your PTG Room parents, and connect with other Alcott families. Join METCO Family Friends at Honey Pot Hill Orchard on Wednesday, October 8 from 1:15-3:00 pm for our fan-favorite apple orchard adventure! The group picks apples, goes for a hayride, feeds farm animals, and wraps up the afternoon with cider & donuts. Please RSVP quickly as we will need to wrap up our final headcount soon. What: Our Fall Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day is Thursday, October 9th!When: Thursday, October 9th starting at 8:30AM (Keyes Rd) and 8:45AM (Emerson Park)Where: There are two departure locations: The Bike Train leaves the station from the Keyes Rd. parking lot at 8:30AM.A Walking School Bus for METCO students and any other Alcott Students, friends and family who may wish to walk and roll together, will begin at 8:45AM at Emerson Park.Who: This event is for Alcott students, parents, family and friends. As always, thank you to the Concord Police Department for their support in making this event safe and fun for all!Please note some important details about this event:  The bike train is ONE WAY ONLY to school! Please make the necessary arrangements to collect your child’s equipment at the end of the school day if they will not be riding home and confirm with the school if their dismissal process has changed.This is NOT a drop off event. A safety reminder: Massachusetts law requires all participants who bike, scoot, rollerblade or skateboard to wear a helmet! Before the bike train departs, the Concord Police Department will have a few child bike helmets available on a first come, first served basis. 

Join the Alcott community for an afternoon of fall fun at Alcott. Bounce houses, carnival games, face painting, concessions and even family photos with Alcott’s one and only Bronson! The event is free of charge and open to the Alcott community. Bring your whole family and enjoy the fun! We need lots of volunteers to make this event happen so find a friend and sign up HERE.

Alcott Movie Night is Friday, October 24th! The movie will be decided by the students starting October 17. Students may vote for their preferred movie (Moana 2, Elio, the new Lilo & Stitch, or Zootopia) via small change donations in buckets in the main lobby. Concessions will be available starting at 5:30, and the movie will begin at 6:00 pm to allow for greater participation by some of our younger Alcott families! Kate Smith & Emily Dreitz are still looking for additional volunteers to help make Alcott Movie Night a blockbuster event! Students in grades 2-5 will be able to participate in our show.If your child would like to participate, please use the link below to fill out the Googleform. If your child will perform with a group, each child in the group must havea form filled out by a parent or guardian–like a permission slip. Due to the overwhelming popularity of this event, performance spaces are limited inorder to end the show at an appropriate time.Students must be able to attend the Variety Show Auditions, on Wednesday, October29th between 1:00-4:00pm. Grade 5 students are working together on a community service project to benefit Open Table, a local food pantry and meal program whose mission is to provide fresh food and household supplies to keep families healthy. We need your help to make our project – a school-wide collection of items for Open Table Kids Bags – a success! Open Table distributes more than 150 bags a week to children who visit the food pantry with their families.Each grade is asked to donate different items to the bins outside their classrooms. Kindergarten – boxes of mac and cheese; Grade 1 – small, individual boxes of cereal or oatmeal packets; Grade 2 – 100% juice boxes; Grade 3 – fruit cups or applesauce cups (no sugar added); Grade 4 – granola bars, fruit bars, or canned soup; Grade 5 – canned soup/ravioli or snack-sized crackers/pretzelsKids Bags will be prepared by fifth graders and delivered to Open Table in early November. November is the first month where we host the first of three PTG meetings open to our entire community. The first half of our November meeting features Language Arts Specialist (and Alcott Parent/PTG Board Member) Katie Carr presenting on our new literacy curriculum followed by a Q&A. The second half of our November meeting will offer an opportunity for parents to learn about what the PTG is working on and share their feedback about PTG programming.

This year the Alcott Variety Show will showcase on November 20, 2025! This is a change from previous years, where our show was held in the late spring. For those of you who may not know, the Alcott School Variety Show is a family-friendly evening that showcases the awesome talents of our Alcott students (and sometimes teachers!) This is meant to be a fun, supportive night, with no competition involved. Talents can be performing an instrument, doing stand-up comedy, performing a skit, dancing, or whatever you can think of! Participation details can be found HERE.
